  15.        This program is part of the Samba suite.

  17.        ssmmbbrruunn is a very small 'glue' program,  which  runs  shell
  18.        commands for the ssmmbbdd daemon (see ssmmbbdd((88))))..
  19.  
  20.        It  first  changes to the highest effective user and group
  21.        ID that it can, then runs the command line provided  using
  22.        the system() call. This program is necessary to allow some
  23.        operating systems to run external programs as non-root.

  33.        The PATH variable set for the environment in which  ssmmbbrruunn
  34.        is  executed  will affect what executables are located and
  35.        executed if a fully-qualified path is  not  given  in  the
  36.        command.

  39. IINNSSTTAALLLLAATTIIOONN
  40.        The location of the server and its support files is a mat-
  41.        ter for individual system  administrators.  The  following
  42.        are thus suggestions only.

  44.        It  is  recommended  that  the ssmmbbrruunn program be installed
  45.        under the /usr/local hierarchy, in a directory readable by
  46.        all,  writeable  only  by root. The program should be exe-
  47.        cutable by all.  The program should NOT be setuid or  set-
  48.        gid!

  50. VVEERRSSIIOONN
  51.        This  man  page  is (mostly) correct for version 1.9.00 of
  52.        the Samba suite, plus some of the recent  patches  to  it.
  53.        These notes will necessarily lag behind development of the
  54.        software, so it is possible that your version of the  pro-
  55.        gram  has  extensions  or  parameter semantics that differ
  56.        from or are not covered by this man  page.  Please  notify
  57.        these to the address below for rectification.

  74.        If  smbrun cannot be located or cannot be executed by ssmmbbdd
  75.        then appropriate messages will be found in the smbd  logs.
  76.        Other diagnostics are dependent on the shell-command being
  77.        run. It is advisable for  your  shell  commands  to  issue
  78.        suitable diagnostics to aid trouble-shooting.
